Participatory Accountability
Reader's Research Request

"What can you tell me about participatory accountability?"

Participatory accountability happens when and where mutual
respect is generated by honoring all forms of group decisions.

Participatory accountability brings attention to, and improves
previously neglected issues, supports collaborative efforts
and solutions, and controls the arbitrary use of power by
those who yield it.

Leaders flourish whenever and wherever participatory
accountability works.  After all, leaders today need closer
relationships with trusted advisers.

There are many challenges though to the processes of
participatory accountability.

Challenges such as...

...adopting other ideas for the sake of "keeping the peace"
may result in losing one's own thoughts, ideas and desires.

...emphasis on and support of change.

...greater scrutiny and higher expectations.

Mindful Wishing

Which do you believe is going to move you closer to
your goals... to the life you want... the career you want...
the respect you desire?

Mindful wishing or wishful thinking...

Mindful wishing --of course-- since mindful wishing
requires action, and action requires you to know the
reason for and benefits of your goals is more important
than the goals themselves.

Do your goals inspire you; empower you; and excite
you to take action?

For each of your goals you must be willing to increase
and show the world your passion, your commitment
and your determination.

Gratitude and Appreciation

Everyone wants and needs to be acknowledged
and appreciated.

Make sure you start giving both every day in every
way by reaching out.

To show your gratitude and appreciation, add praise
and encouragement to your day.  Let others know that
you appreciate their efforts.  Recognize how motivating
it is to receive praise.

Take sincere interest in each person, and get excited
about their progress.  When you show your appreciation
it is almost always reciprocated with an increase in the
results produced by the other person

Bottom line...

Gratitude and appreciation encourages and motivates.

Give a Little, Receive a Lot

Take a deep breath and remember that there are things
in your life you can control, and there are things in your
life you cannot control.

Open your heart to the possibility that everything happens
for a reason, and that there are no mistakes.

Stop looking for reasons, rather see the big picture, and
understand that the situation is guided BY you and is
happening FOR you.

Know and accept that you called for the situation for
your growth.

Experience the shift in your consciousness, the movement
of energy both within yourself and throughout the situation
itself, so that the elements within the situation itself shift
and change and begin to look like miracles.

The holidays are almost here, so give the people you love

Mindfulness : Being in the Moment

Do you spend your time worrying about the future and
dwelling in the past?

Mindfulness is being present in the moment and is taught
in many stress management programs.

You have more power, less stress and get more out of
your life by being present in the moment, knowing what
is important in your life and spending your time and
energy there.

To know what is important in your life you must make
a distinction between importance and urgency.

Importance is something you place a value on, and
urgency is something someone tells you to do right
away.

While you are busy with an urgent deadline you may
be missing something more important in your life.

What are you missing in your life?

Explore mindfulness in your life and feel the power
of being present in the moment.

Being Proactive

Did you know that being proactive makes your projects go
faster with less stress?

To complete your project faster with less stress, plan and
think through each project by visualizing the sequence of
events required to achieve your goal in the fewest number
of steps possible and include only those steps that are
more effective and productive.

Be sure you remember to consider the consequences of
your steps by asking yourself this question...

Can I live with the consequences of these steps?

You may be able to remove any stress-filled obstacle to
your progress in achieving your goals before they happen
when you know what consequences you are willing to
accept.

This is being proactive.

Staying Present

Did you know that when you stay in the "present"
you are, and feel much calmer?

Your body and your mind are in balance and there
is less tension within you, and around you.

To get to this state of mind and body you must let
go of your future and your past thoughts.

This not to say that you do no planning for your future
or learn from your past, it just means when you catch
yourself feeling tense, focus on the moment and begin
feeling the difference.

The goal is to stay "present" when you begin to lose
your focus and your creativity.

When you are in the "present" you are in control of
yourself which leads to wellness.  Multi-tasking,
doing many things at once does not.

After all, there is more to a day than you realize, and
the choice is yours.

Choose Fascination

This past week's has given us many frustrating moments
in which we were unable to resolve any of the many issues
that presented themselves in our lives.

This gave us the impetus to reflect on lessons learned in
the past from which we (and hopefully you) may gain some
solace by choosing fascination over frustration in finding
solutions to your frustrating moments.

After all, frustration "...implies making vain or ineffectual
efforts however vigorous or persistent" leaving you feeling
helpless and not knowing what to do in certain situations.

Our colleague Kevin Eikenberry, in an exceptional article
on choosing fascination not frustration that is motivational
and inspirational, notes that frustration leads to anger,
resentment and regret while fascination leads to improved
relationships, results, knowledge, and understanding.

Notice that your state of mind has an effect on situations
and the people around you.  By being a partner with the
difference of other people and their reactions remember
that other people's reactions will mirror you when you
set the mood.

Start by looking at the situation and the people around
you, and then set the mood by telling others how to act
around you.

Initiate by being proactive.

Get involved at some level, and remember to use your
mind plus your body to maximizes your involvement.

Seek to comfort and be comforted.  Be remembered for
the joy and love you give to others, and the quality of
your love.

And finally, don't question your partners' judgment and
suggestions, look with whom they are interacting.

After all, what we are all here about is love, hope and
possibilities.

The choice is yours.

Partnering for Revenue Growth

How often have you wondered about your "revenue growth"?

Whether you own a business, have a career, or take care
of a family, "revenue growth" seems to come up all the time
especially now with increased energy cost for products and
services we have grown accustomed to receiving such as
gas for our cars, our homes and businesses; electricity, etc.

Here is a suggestion for "revenue growth" we have found
while doing business on-line...

As a business, career or family person, offer new services
and products by partnering [aka joint venturing] with those
in your niche and your targeted market who support your
vision.

Partnering is currently the way to the future that helps both
you and those with whom you partner.

The Thoughts You Think

The thoughts you think shape your behavior.

As we all know, mind and body influence each other.
What you think influences how you feel.  The opposite
is also true.

Since what you feel makes you do things you might
consider not doing, it is important to think before you
act and never, never act on what you are feeling
because feelings are irrational.

The discipline of Bioenergetic Analysis helps you
integrate your mind (what you think) and your body
(what you feel) so that you realize more pleasure
and joy in living.

A fundamental thesis of bioenergetic analysis is that
your mind and your body are functionally identical;
that is to say, what goes on in your mind reflects
what is happening in your body and vice versa.

However this interaction is limited to the conscious
aspects of your personality and behavior.

On the unconscious level, both what you think and
what you feel are influenced by your energy.

The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction states that what ever you give
your energy, focus and attention to, you attract to
your life whether you want it or not.

Want to know if you are giving positive or negative
attention in any area of your life?  Take a look at
what you are receiving.

We tend to place our attention on what we surround
ourselves with, so it is important you surround yourself
with joy, abundance, confidence and love rather than
resentment, frustration, distress, lack and irritation.

The attention you surround yourself with, be it with
people, places, or things, determines and creates
your present and future strategies for your work
and your life.

Therefore it is important to live with what you feel
good about.

Until next week, live your passion, live your purpose

attraction and strategies you generated from your

Cooperation and The Selfish Gene

We have all heard that sharing and cooperation
is what is needed to build relationships and to
live a good and peaceful life.

The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins attempts
to dispel this with his opening sentence...

"Intelligent life on a planet comes of age when it
first works out the reason for its own existence..."

Dawkins states that his "...purpose for writing this
book is to examine the biology of selfishness and
altruism."

Although he is not advocating evolution based on
morality or stating how humans morally ought to
behave, his conclusions are applauded by some
and denounced by others because, apart from
academic interest, this subject touches on every
aspect of social life.

Loving and hating, fighting and cooperating, giving
and stealing, greed and generosity.

Read this book and decide for yourself if changing
the way you look at things changes what you look
at.

Getting a Handle on Your Stress

Whether it's a different career, a new business,
a current or a new relationship "getting a handle
your stress" is an important skill.

How often do you find yourself needing to control
situations?

How often do you let go of your ego when you feel
the need to control these situations?

While having an ego is important, there are times
when ego gets in the way of getting what we want.

Do you know how to let go of your ego?

Did you know that your anger comes when you
are ego involved?

Take for example, finding yourself in a particular
situation that requires you to help someone who
does not accept your help.  Do you stay in that
situation, attempt to persuade and get angry, or
do you let go and leave?

Surely each and every situation is different and
each require your sensitivity and rational thinking
as to how to proceed.  Yet once you catch yourself
dealing from an ego position and you begin to
feel tense, your stress level rises and if not
caught in time you begin feeling distress.

And, you know that unless you start "getting a
handle on your stress" over time stress becomes
distress, and distress becomes dis-ease.

"Change the way you look at things, and the
things you look at change."

The Power of Intention and Feeling Good

The power of intention exists in the universe as an
invisible force of energy.

You can learn to use this energy to co-create your
life because the power of intention comes from your
thoughts.

Did you know that...

...obstacles come from your thoughts?
...your present life situation comes from your thoughts?
...what you want comes from your thoughts?
...what you think becomes your reality?

Whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts,
change the thoughts to positive ones.

For example, change "I don't have enough money..." to
"My intention is to have as much money as I need" or
"Money comes to me, because I see myself attracting
endless abundance."

Thinking this way opens you to seeing opportunities that
come your way as a result of this intention.

This is not a new concept, 45 years ago James Allen
wrote in As a Man Thinketh "As a man thinketh in his
heart so is he, not only embraces the whole of a man's
being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every
condition and circumstance of his life ..."

You are literally what you think, and your life is the sum
of all your thoughts.

In The Power of Intention Dr. Wayne W. Dyer offers
examples of how you co-create your life and how the
change in your thinking can change your life.

"Change the way you look at things, and the things
you look at change."

Gain from Your Intuition

Do you use your intuition to make decisions?

Here is what intuition is...

Intuition goes beyond logic.  Intuition backed
with logic is a very powerful decision making
tool.

According to Sandy Karn, a results specialist
and president of Creative Results Sources, Inc.
"There are actually two types of intuition.  The
first involves critical observation and heightened
awareness of everything going on around you
and all the factors affecting your decision."

"...The second type of intuition involves your
Inner-Knower - that part of you that is in tune
with the wisdom of the Universe and the rhythms
of Nature.  This is the type of intuition described
by Carl Jung and taught by people such as
Deepak Chopra today.  This requires shutting
down your active mind for a while to give you the
opportunity to go inside yourself and tap into this
Inner Knowledge.  We all have access to it -
however it takes practice to access it."

And, here is how you gain from your intuition...

Quiet your mind and calm your emotions.  Start
by paying attention to your feelings and physical
reactions and continue doing this as you make
your decision.

Take Sandy's Self Development Quiz here and
learn to gain from your intuition here.

The Power of Collaboration and Community

Do you want to increase your ability to collaborate with

The ability to share ideas is one of the most powerful

Making a Difference Revisited

Last month we presented The Art of Making a Difference
and received many responses for additional information.

So here is the additional information you requested.

How many times have you set your goals, and your agenda
for a particular day only to find that there wasn't enough time
to do what you wanted to do, and what was important for you
to do?

Is it because you need to define what is important to you, or
are the goals and action steps too challenging?  Exactly where
do you want to make a difference in your life and in the lives
of others?

Do you want to make a difference...

...with your family?
...with your work?
...with your health?
...with your wealth?
...with your education?
...with your social life?
...with your spiritual life?

Start now... make a list of what is important and challenging for
you.

You'll be glad you did because when you look at and work with
this list you return to what is important to you and do what is
important to you.

You also begin to notice that what you are doing now is just
taking you away from what is important to you and you begin
to realize that you are able to do what is important to you as
soon as you decide to take action.

It is really that simple.

So what's stopping you?

When faced with a challenge are you eager to embrace it or do
you shrivel up and hide under the covers?

Now is the time to make a difference by anticipating and accepting
the challenges you face.

You can make a difference by...

- using your unique purpose (the reason you are on this earth)

- making the world a better place than the way you found it.

- extending yourself with acts of kindness.

- being a Daymaker.

What do you want to learn about to make a difference?

Change Just One Thing

Now is the time to change just one thing.
What do you want to change in your life?

Think of just one thing you want to change
in your business life. And now, think of
just one thing you want to change in your
personal life.

Having only positive thoughts during this
exercise helps in developing action steps
to achieving this change.

Do you want to be more optimistic, more
flexible and more courageous in your business
and personal relationships?

If your answer is yes, make a list of what
you must do (your action steps) to be more
optimistic, more flexible and more courageous.

Again staying positive...

Begin to change just one thing in your business
and personal life by knowing what you want to
change and the steps you need to take to get
there.

Being Happy
(Requested by a Reader)

According to Webster, being happy is an emotion
evoked by well-being, success, good fortune and by
the prospect of possessing what you desire.

Being happy as a source or cause of delight is a state
of contentment.

Being happy as an emotion is a pleasurable and
satisfying experience.

Being happy as an emotion is found within, therefore
finding what makes you happy requires you to know
your self.

By living and being who you truly are is the art of being
happy.

Recognize your talents...
Turn your talents into skills...
Use your skills to achieve your most heart-felt goals...
Live your purpose with passion and compassion...

Just do it and get there sooner, rather than later.

Change-Ability

Alan Deutschman, a Fast Company senior writer
based in San Francisco, writes that "mastering
the ability to change isn't just a crucial strategy
for business.  It's a necessity for health.  And it's
possibly the one thing that's most worth learning."

In his article Change or Die he provides information
on the cause of behavior changes.

Your emotions cause behavior changes.  How you
feel about yourself, your life, and the situations you
find yourself determines whether you want to continue
feeling the way you do, and changing the way you
feel by changing your behavior.

The ability to master and support changes in your
life comes when you have a quiet mind and a calm
body.

Live Your Purpose

What is your purpose in life?

Are you living your purpose?

Arnold Patent in his book You Can Have It All writes about
Universal Laws. He maintains that your life works well
when these laws are followed.

One of the Universal Laws is that we all have a purpose
in life and that we are alive to live that purpose.

By finding and living your purpose (not your disappointment
or pain) in life, you open new frontiers since there is only
one you and your purpose is uniquely you.

Begin sharing by living your purpose with your colleagues,
